For those of you into Dre’s Beats… they’re going wireless via Bluetooth in November ’11 for $280

23 Oct

But we put the new Beats Wireless headphones through their paces. They’re Bluetooth as well, and sound like it. The rap-friendly signature “Christ, my ear drum” bass was there, but a variety of songs—Chris Brown to Coldplay—sounded muddled and tinny. Probably because Bluetooth just isn’t that great for beaming around audio. The $280 (£180) available next month, were highly comfortable (albeit during a short time on my skull). But the side-mounted buttons were mushy and poorly laid out, and I found myself skipping tracks instead of turning them up.

The best iPad alternative just got priced and dated for US: Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus (Nov 13, $400)

23 Oct

Samsungs Galaxy Tab 7 Plus Priced and Dated For the U.S.

The 16GB version of the seven inch tablet, which runs on a 1.2GHz dual core processor and packs a 3MP camera capable of capturing 720P video, will officially be available starting November 13th at select retailers including Best Buy and Amazon for $400. But if you don’t feel like braving the inevitably long lines that morning, pre-orders will actually begin tomorrow with select, but unspecified, partners. As for the larger 32GB version, expect that later this year, or early next.

Like the Sony Tablet S, the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus features a built-in infrared transmitter and thePeel remote application, nixing the need for the extra hardware usually required for other supported devices. And 7 Plus users will not only be able to ditch the remotes for their TV, cable box, Blu-ray player and other AV gear, but they’ll also be blessed with social media capabilities, letting them share their embarrassing TV habits on Twitter and Facebook. Steve Jobs’ Biography is already #1 on Amazon’s Best Sellers for Best Books #teechy

Steve Jobs

Product Description

Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, and when societies around the world are trying to build digital-age economies, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering.

Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published. He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted.

Driven by demons, Jobs could drive those around him to fury and despair. But his personality and products were interrelated, just as Apple’s hardware and software tended to be, as if part of an integrated system. His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values.

And theres such an immense amount of intimate strangeness that hasnt been revealed yet—not until Walter Isaacsons book comes out on the 24th. But from the above, you can already see the portrait of a man devoid of keynote charm. An autocrat behind closed doors, stubborn enough to defy both the president and cancer itself. He wanted to destroy Google. He at times eschewed modern medicine. He forced a promise from Yo-Yo Ma to play at his funeral, years in advance. He took his inspiration for the Mac from a Cuisinart, the AP says. He named his entire company after a day trip hed taken to an Apple orchard.

Steve Jobs Refused a Potentially Life-Saving Surgery for 9 months #teechy

21 Oct

Walter Isaacson, the author of the upcoming official Steve Jobs biography, told 60 minutes that Steve Jobs refused what could have potentially been a life-saving surgery. Remember, though Jobs had pancreatic cancer, he also had a very rare form that was treatable through surgery. Jobs didn’t want that surgery.

Isaacson, who had numerous conversations with Jobs, says:

“I think that he kind of felt that if you ignore something, if you don’t want something to exist, you can have magical thinking…we talked about this a lot. He wanted to talk about it, how he regretted it….I think he felt he should have been operated on sooner.”

Steve Jobs Was Ready For “Thermonuclear War” Against Android for Stealing Apple’s Ideas #teechy

“I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apples $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong,” Jobs said. “Im going to destroy Android, because its a stolen product. Im willing to go thermonuclear war on this.”Jobs used an expletive to describe Android and Google Docs, Googles Internet-based word processing program. In a subsequent meeting with Schmidt at a Palo Alto, Calif., cafe, Jobs told Schmidt that he wasnt interested in settling the lawsuit, the book says.”I dont want your money. If you offer me $5 billion, I wont want it. Ive got plenty of money. I want you to stop using our ideas in Android, thats all I want.”

Steve Jobs Worked the Day Before He Died #truepassion #teechy

From a commenter: “I agree with you. What I think some people cant begin to comprehend is what it must be like to create something like Apple, INC out of nothing and for it to become what it is. Most of us will never get to that level. People sometimes put Jobs in the same category of other CEOs but it isnt like the CEO of Sony or of Disney- Steve Jobs created co-created Apple. It was his company. And to have it start as a company in a garage to success to being kicked out of it to returning and making it the biggest tech company on the planet and one of the biggest companies of any sort is a huge accomplishment. And he didnt get it there by sitting on his ass. Ever. Even when dying. And dont forget, he had been dying for years.”

Barometers to be the new features in mobile handsets #teechy

The Unforeseen Awesome

Heres the other thing: once devs get their hands on Ice Cream Sandwich and its barometric possibilities, who knows what they might come up with? The most obvious secondary benefit might be to gaming developers, who could use the altitude measuring to improve control schemes in games. But whats most exciting are the possibilities we cant even dream of yet. And its something no one else has right now.
