iTunes Match is Live! But follow these steps to convert your crummy-quality music in the FASTEST WAY POSSIBLE!

15 Nov

It’s been known that iTunes Match can upgrade all those gnarly low-quality files in your library to the high-quality ones in Apple’s cloud, but if you’ve got a lot of music, it could take forever to slog through your library one by one. So instead, once you’ve matched all your music, just do this:

  • Create a Smart Playlist in iTunes, selectingBit Rate less than 256 kbps, and Media Kindas Music.
  • Create a conditional Any of the following are true parameter, selecting iCloud Status is Matched as well as iCloud Status as purchased.
  • Once you are ABSOLUTELY SURE you’ve done this correctly go ahead and delete all of the files in Smart Playlist. It will be OK. Low-resolution files don’t have feelings, we swear.
  • Your tracks will still be there—but the files are gone so they’ll only be available in iTunes Match. Now all you have to do is instruct your iTunes to fill in all of those holes by downloading new files using iTunes Match. This can take a while—but it’ll be worth it.
  • The best part is you don’t have to do it all at once—you can update the music you play a lot first, and the leave the great multitude to download when you’re going to be away for a while. [MacWorld]

Well that was fast: Apple Seeds iOS 5.0.1 to Developers, Fixes iPhone 4S Battery Issues, & Adds New Multitouch Gestures to Original iPad

Today Apple seeded a beta of iOS 5.0.1 to developers, providing a fix for the iPhone 4S battery life issues and bugs in iCloud. They also added the new multitouch gestures for iPad 1 users, which were a glaring omission in the initial release. It’ll probably be a few weeks (or longer) until we all have access to this update, but it’s good to know these fixes are imminent.

Called it. An Apple TV Set is in the works. Hinted by Steve Jobs. Get ready for your living room to change just like your music did. Time to invest in AAPL?

25 Oct

Apple Television Set Prototypes Reportedly In the Works – Mac Rumors.

– Based on Jan-11 meetings in Asia (not with component suppliers), we believe Apple is investing in manufacturing facilities and securing supply for LCD displays. These displays could range from 3.5″ mobile displays to 50″ television displays.

– More recently, in Sept-11 we met with a contact close to an Asian component supplier who indicated that prototypes of an Apple television are in the works.

Apple could sell 1.4 million television sets at an average selling price of $1800 in 2012, ramping up to 4.3 million units by 2014 as costs drop to an average selling price of $1400. Munster’s estimates, which are of course essentially guesses informed by current market trends, put Apple’s share of the connected TV market at 3% in 2014, with the company bringing in $6 billion in revenue from the segment.

My 1st Teechy tutorial! (Teechy #1) Get the most out of your Mac’s or PC’s speakers when using iTunes, and improve song quality via these “Perfect” Equalizer settings #teechy

23 Oct

Do you ever feel that the maximum volume on your iTunes or Mac/PC is too low? Does the sound quality from your iTunes seem sub-par? Did you ever use DFX Audio (http://www.fxsound.com) back on a PC to make your music seem like it was recorded live, right in front of you?

If you’re serious about music, follow these instructions to get the best out of the songs in your iTunes library.

  1. On a Mac, go into your iTunes “Preferences” via iTunes > Preferences… (or press Command + the comma button on your keyboard). If you’re on a PC, go to your iTunes “Options” to make these improvements.

    iTunes Preferences

  2. Go to “Playback” preferences, enable (check the box next to) “Sound Enhancer,” and move the slider 3/4 of the way left to hear a little more “punch” to your music. (Going all the way to the left causes some muffling and tinny sounds, but you may want to play around with it depending on your speakers or headphones.)It should look like this when you’re done:

iTunes Sound Enhancer 3/4 of the way left.

  3. Now go to your iTunes “Equalizer” settings found here:

    iTunes Equalizer Location

  4. Turn your Equalizer “On” by checking the box and adjust each slider to match the following setup:

    "Perfect" iTunes Equalizer Setup

*Depending on your speakers and/or headphones, you may have to adjust your sliders, more likely the first three (32, 64, and 125) if you sense that your speakers/headphones can’t handle the bass level and you hear some distortion as a result. Simply mess around with the sliders as I have done here to account for the various speakers and headphones I use:

"Perfect + 1 Bass" iTunes Equalizer

    "Perfect + Tri-Bass" iTunes Equalizer

"Perfect + Flat Bass" iTunes Equalizer

You’re set to go on iTunes!

Happy listening! Share with your friends! And stay tuned into Teechy for upcoming tutorials on how to get the best out of your computer and music, and Update Yourself.

Scott Forstall, the Polarizing Genius Behind iOS, is the mini-Steve Jobs

13 Oct

Forstall comes across as the Once and Future Apple—a reminder that the company is more than one man, its a philosophy both technical and industrial that its torchbearers can either work together to nurture, or watch flicker out due to corporate infighting and jealousy

via Scott Forstall, the Polarizing Genius Behind iOS.

Aqua, OS X Leopard, the Mac-minded philosophy iOS, and the App Store are all children of Forstall’s vision.

Forstall was behind or involved in several key iPhone-related patents, and he’s likely the most important person at the company behind Tim Cook and Jon Ive. He’s also the closest approximation to Steve Jobs currently working at Apple:

In many ways, Forstall is a mini-Steve. He’s a hard-driving manager who obsesses over every detail. He has Jobs’s knack for translating technical, feature-set jargon into plain English.
