Holy crap! Carrier IQ is secretly installed on any cell phone you have, recording every keystroke, button-press, password, website, text, and sending this to Google, AT&T, Sprint, and others.

If you have any decently modern Android phone, everything you do is being recorded by hidden software lurking inside. It even circumvents web encryption and grabs everything—including your passwords and Google queries.

Worse: it’s the handset manufacturers and the carriers who—in the name of “making your user experience better”—install this software without any way for you to opt-out. This video, recorded by 25-year-old Android developer Trevor Eckhart, shows how it works. This is bad. Really bad.

Forget Xzibit. Pimp out your bangin’-hot Prius with the automotive industry’s first integrated and mirrored smartphone-car system from Toyota.

Called this one too. It’s coming. And fast. The next step for Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc. after your cpu, phone, tablet, and TV/living room?

Your ride.

If you’re looking to get your smartphone more in-sync with your car, you may want to consider a new Toyota with the Touch Life “infotainment” system. Given a compatible smartphone / app combo, it can mirror the phones display on its 7-inch touchscreen for access to navigation, music or social networking services. Nokia owners can connect their Symbian Belle devices by way of MirrorLink, developed by the Car Connectivity Consortium, in its first deployment by the automotive industry.

Apple iPhone and iPod faithful will have to install Application Launcher in order to sync up with the infotainment system. If driving distractions are a concern, steering wheel controls play nice with the tech as well — its not quite SYNC Applink, but well take it. Toyota promises features and smartphones will continue to be added, but for a current list of compatible cars, devices and apps, check the press release on the website below.
